Man Rings

I don't like a man with rings.  There, I said it.  Maybe it's odd?    I'm of the view that jewellery and bling should be left to the ladies and men should spend their cash on buying such bling for women.  Thoughts?  Ok, Liberace got away with it - but he was a super cool musician and besides, he looked good in furs.  Johnny Depp and Pacino can do no wrong in my little black book, so they can wear as many rings as they like.  But, the every day man - well, I'm out!  It's a total turn off for me.   What do you think?   Do you like a man throwing himself a finger party?

Trans-Seasonal Fashion

I love everything Emerson Fry.  Maybe it's because it's a New York label and I'm biased because I'm obsessed with New York?   Emerson Fry's new Spring/Summer 2013 collection hit my inbox yesterday and it's gorgeous - I had to share it.   Despite being five days into winter in Sydney, I don't believe in fashion limitations (or limitations more generally) and we shouldn't wait another three months to wear these gorgeous pieces.    You can easily pair any of these Spring/Summer numbers with a winter coat, some stockings and boots and you're away.

Essential Winter Ingredients

Winter kicks off in three days, though I must say I feel like it arrived yonks ago.  I can barely remember summer.   Whilst I am a self-confessed summer girl, I do love winter fashion.  The layering, coats, boots, scarves and gloves.   I also love nights in, by the fireplace/heater, curled up on the couch with a blanket reading a book, getting lost on the www, watching a movie or just hanging around doing nothing.  Here are my essential winter wardrobe/handbag pieces.   What are yours?

1. A statement ankle boot @ Guiseppe Zanotti

2. Sleek black jacket @ Saba

3. Cashmere love @ Alexander McQueen

4. Easy to throw on knit dress @ Marcs

5. I'm cold bitch beanie @ Urban Outfitters

6. Do not leave the house without Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment (or live with ugly chapped lips)

7. Fun gloves @ Allanah Hill

8. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (one of my favourites)

9. Basic knit top @ Marcs

1. Wear this Cat Lace Veil Headband?

I'm in.
It's super cool (I love a good veil) and slightly ridiculous @ the same time (I'm getting Minnie Mouse
vibes)  It's by Maison Michel Paris, known for their beautiful veils and animal ears.
Check them out here.

2. Wear these "jeans"?

Party Fingers

Rings have been my favourite jewellery piece for as long as I can remember.   It's the one piece I will not leave the house without.  I go through phases with rings and I have favourites which I wear for days at a time or weeks or even months.   As a teenager (of the 90s) I would pretty much have a ring on each finger and sometimes multiple rings on each finger - it was very cool.   I eventually transitioned into the more mature "one ring look".  But, I have been loving the finger parties that have been going on for a few years now and I'm tempted to jump on board.  Do you like this look? What do you think - Y/N?   Should I get back into it?

Would you ...

1. Wear this bikini?
food bikini 2 Hot Dog / Fries Bikini
Summer is a hell of a long way away (but it's always on my mind).  Would you wear this hot dog and fries bikini?   I guess you would need to be super thin so nobody would judge you (or your suggested eating habits)?   Wonder if they have a no carbs version?  Perhaps with salad and veges?

2.  Eat a piece of this cake?

Yep, it's what it looks like - it's a brain cake.  Not very appertising.  Would you eat a piece?   I don't have a sweet tooth so I'm out (phew)!  This is a great site for cool cake design ideas - check it out.

Boot It

'Tis the season to pull out your coats, scarves, gloves and (my personal favourite) boots!   Autumn is wrapping up and we are heading into winter (fast).  One of my favourite things about winter (other than the red wine and thick warm bed socks) is the boots!  I wear boots just about every day during winter and it's  important to have a few different styles and colours to mix it up.  There is nothing sexier than a knee high stiletto boot, though I have more recently embraced the ankle boot!   I love boots over jeans, tights or with a short dress/skirt.   I buy at least one new pair of boots every winter and this year will be no exception.  I'm on the hunt for more this season.  Here are my top 10 favourites.

1. Jeffrey Campbell (Zomp)
3. Burberry (Saks)
4. Verali (Iconic)
5. Jimmy Choo (Saks)
6. Giuseppe Zanotti (Saks)
7. Siren (Iconic)
8. Uggs (Uggs Aust)
9. Gucci (Saks)
10. Phillip Lim (Matches)

Maison Martin Margiela MM6 - Trunk Translucent Ankle Boots

Are these Margiela shoes the modern day Cinderella shoe?  Would you wear it?  You would need a perfectly manicured foot to pull these little bad boys off!

Wear these ear muffs?

There is something super cool and comfy about Wenmei Zhang's ear muffs!  A pair of Ugg boots, these ear muffs and I'm off for my Sunday morning coffee in Paddington!   Well, in my head I am at least.

Fashion Update

I wrote about Schiaparelli relaunching its fashion house earlier this year.  Well, finally a designer has been "appointed" to design the first collection. Who better than the legendary French designer Christian Lacroix.  Lacroix is designing a 15 piece couture collection that will hit the Paris runway in June this year.  I am so excited, can't wait to see it.  I love that there will be different "artistic directors", kicking off with Lacroix, until a permanent is found.  It's a great strategy for resuscitating a unique brand.  I wonder which couture designer will get the permanent gig!  Check out some of Lacroix's work below.  What do you think?  Can Lacroix do Schiapparelli proud?

Friendship (Pins)

I don't know why, but I remembered friendship pins today.  Remember friendship beads on safety pins?  If you aren't a child of the 80s you may be confused.  Let me explain.  You take a small safety pin (silver or gold) and string beads on it (dropping many tiny beads in the process but persevering), then you give them to your friends and you just make a heap for yourself ready to exchange (with your friends - only best friends and new best friends were entitled).  I remember spending hours creating friendship pins.  I used to slip them through my (leather) watch band until you could see no leather - only beads (does anyone wear leather watch bands nowadays?)  The colour of the beads ranged from multi-colour, black and white, gold and black, red and blue - you name it.  It's amazing how much time and patience you have when you're young!  Are the kids into it these days?   I'm sure it's totally uncool - but, for me (a child of the 80s - the late 80s that is) it bring back many pleasant memories.   See what I'm talking about.

Outfit of Choice

Over the weekend I was chatting to my auntie (think early 40s auntie) about catching up at a family BBQ in early May.  The focus of the discussion was predominantly around what we would wear.  I suggested a pair of PJs with some killer heels.   I was serious and am still considering it.   Could you pull it off?   Here are some pieces which I think you could sensibly wear to a Sunday BBQ (with heels of course).

Put It On Paper

These little numbers are made of paper.  How beautiful are they?!  They are part of a photo series by Iban Montero called Limited Paper.  The designs are by Ane Lopez.  They are super elegant.  I love them.  Initial thoughts included: what about the paper cuts, can you sit in these, so easy to rip off (sexy), what if you get caught in the rain and "do you have a pen"?

Ring of Secrets

Is there anything sweeter than receiving written words of love from your beau?   Nowadays they predominantly short and sweet and arrive in electronic form via text message with numerous acronyms.   In the 1800s you may have been given a ring with hidden love messages in it.  With inscrptions including "I love you a little, a lot, passionately and not at all".    Check it out.

I love secrets.  Secret compartment ring by Antonio Bernardo -(Rio) love!   Makes me think of hidden poison!

Overalls Overload

Remember overalls?  Aka Dungarees?  Big in the 90s and a fashion trend I had hoped was passe forever.  Apparently not.  They're back!  In fact, they're not just back, they are all over the New York, London, Paris 2013 runways and on the streets.  I am letting out a big sigh of dread right now.

Like peplum, I refuse to succumb to this ridiculous fashion trend.  I am not convinced.  Haute Couture or not, I tried it in the 90s - and the overalls look did not work for me or anyone else who wore them.  Overalls will definitely not work for me now (and by that I mean, being able to wear them without feeling like a pudgy 70 year old farmer about to herd some goats).   There is one man, my uncle, (a mechanic by trade) who has worn overalls to work every day since the 90s (and probably before that) and he can pull them off.  I will have to let him know that he is leading the latest fashion trend.   Do you think you can pull of a pair of overalls?  Will you be putting on your heels and strutting down the street in these little numbers?
